February is Dental Month!

Dear Friends of Ballard Animal Hospital,

I wanted to write a quick note this year about your companion animal’s dental health. Your pet’s teeth are probably the most everyday thing that impacts his/her long-term health. When their teeth get unhealthy (gum disease, rotting teeth, etc), it’s painful for your animal, and it’s less fun for you as stinky breath accompanies bad teeth and gums.

Proactively taking care of your pet’s teeth is one of the most important things you can do for your pet. I know everyone isn’t into brushing their dog’s teeth, but my clients who do see a huge reduction in their dogs’ dental problems. (Clearly with cats, that’s less easy to do!) The next option for both cats and dogs is prophylactic cleanings where you help them maintain good teeth before dental disease sets in. It is with this in mind that we offer incentive pricing on prophylactic cleanings for our patients for the month of February. Unlike with humans, cat & dog dentals require anesthesia and anesthesia makes it a more complicated procedure. But in my experience, it’s worth the investment to do these cleanings on a regular basis before your pet is in dental distress.

Hope you are off to a good start in 2018! We wish you all the best for the coming year...
